About

Hi There, My name is Chris Forbes and I’m a software developer up here in Aberdeen, Scotland, UK. I have been a professional software developer since 1995 and began life as a Lotus Notes and VB6 developer. My software development days, however, began at the early age of 11 when I got my first home computer (ZX Spectrum 48K) – I remember getting the magazine ‘input’ and working through the many code samples. Ahh happy days.

Anyway through the years I have worked with many clients & technologies designing and building many enterprise solution still in use through-out the globe!

Since the turn of the century I have found myself deeply entrenched in Microsoft technologies, after putting my Lotus Notes and Java hat to one side I have concentrated my learning into SQL and .NET and in the last few years Dynamics CRM and SharePoint (2007 and now 2010) – My initial introduction and experience with SharePoint dates back to SharePoint 2003 and WSS 2.0 and since then I base the majority of my time designing and building SharePoint solutions.

As you probably know SharePoint’s capabilities are vast, whether it’s around WCM (Web Content Management), Branding, Collaboration, Business Intelligence, Enterprise Search or building apps using web parts & lists etc, BDC (Business Data Catalogue) the list (or SPList :) ) goes on. SharePoint is truly a fantastic technology and the market place is a wash with interest in the product.

Other areas of specialisation for me include the various facets of .NET 3.5 such as workflow foundation, communication foundation and presentation foundation and also including Silverlight and UI design in general. I expect to see a lot more integration of Silverlight within SharePoint 2010

ps I couldn’t find my old Lotus Notes certs logo but I am a PCLP (Principal Certified Lotus Professional) and CAAD (Certified Advanced Application Developer) in Lotus Notes version 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 – back in the day!

Outside of work my passion is Mountain Biking, If your going to live in Scotland then you HAVE to mountain bike. I aim to take part in at least 3 endurance competitions a year and have recently completed Strathpuffer for the 2nd time which is basically 24hr of complete hell, cycling around the North of Scotland in the freezing cold.
